2006 HANDBELL COMPOSITION CONTEST!

It is been our honor this year to create demos for Beckenhorst, From The Top, Jeffers, Lorenz, and MorningStar publishers. In gratitude for our first successful year realizing fine Handbell works, we are excited to announce the first annual SoundPrint Productions Handbell Composition Contest! This competition is specifically designed to open up the field of handbell composition to even further innovation. Please read the rules carefully, and we look forward to hearing your work!

COMPETITION RULES

  • Submission Deadline: November 15, 2006
  • Length: 5-10 minutes
  • Instrumentation: Any combination of Handbells, Handchimes, Piano, and one orchestral instrument (except percussion)
  • Style: Any
  • Form must not be ABA
  • Theme and Variations form not allowed
  • 25% of the work or more must be composed in odd numbered time signatures (ex: 5/4, 7/8 [not including 3/4])
  • 25% of the work or more must be composed utilizing chromatic (non-major/minor/modal) scales.
  • Any level of difficulty, for any sized handbell ensemble.
  • Will not discriminate based on age, nationality, or gender.

WHAT YOU WIN

The winner of the 2006 SoundPrint Handbell Composition Contest receives the following:

  • $200 USD

  • Publication by From The Top Publishing

  • Professional SoundPrint realization of your piece for your unrestricted use.

  • Notice on our web site and other SoundPrint marketing materials.

HOW TO APPLY

This is a blind judging contest. We require that you send a manila envelope containing:

1. A Score marked with a 5-digit number of your choosing.
2. A sealed envelope with the same 5-digit number written on the outside, with your name, email address, address, and telephone number, enclosed within the envelope.
3. If you have a recording of the piece, that recording must be marked only with the 5-digit number you have chosen.

Please note that we cannot accept any entries that don't adhere to these guidelines. If you want your materials returned after judging, please enclose a self-address stamped envelope.
